Ovahimba Living Museum

The town of Keetmanshoop was named after the industrialist Johan Keetman, with "Hoop meaning "hope" in Afrikaans. Established as a missionary station in 1866, Keetman financially supported the mission hoping that evangelization would calm the hostile tribes of what then known as Namaland. Interestingly, Keetman never set foot in the town that bears his name. The original inhabitants of Keetmanshoop, a Nama tribe, date back to the late 18th century.

Quivertree Forest

Travellers to the south of Namibia will find a fascinating point of interest near the town of Keetmanshoop: A large Quivertree Forest with thousands of quiver trees, close by a piece of land where a lot of Mesosaurus fossiles have been found and additionally a picturesque dolerite rock field.
